All ATAC Tactors incorporate a moving “contactor” that is lightly preloaded against the skin. When an electrical signal is applied, the “contactor” oscillates perpendicularly to the skin, while the surrounding skin area is “shielded” with a passive housing.

C-2 TACTOR

The C-2 tactor, for its size, weight and power consumption, presents the highest vibro-tactile stimulation available in this class of device and has been extensively used in a wide variety of military and commercial applications. It is rugged and reliable, and is the recommended tactor for most applications.
Mechanism: Moving magnet linear actuator.

Size: 1.17" diameter, 0.30" thick

Frequency: 200-300 Hz, although can be operated at lower frequencies but with reduced displacement output.

Material: Anodized aluminum, polyurethane.

Recommended Drive: EAI controller or audio amplifier.

Availibility: Usually available from stock.

C-3 TACTOR

Smaller than the C-2 with similar performance, the C-3 Tactor is recommended where size and weight must be minimized. EAI’s C-3 Tactor represents a state-of-the-art, wearable vibrotactile transducer, suitable for a wide variety of military, biomedical and commercial applications.

Mechanism: Moving magnet linear actuator.

Size: 0.74" diameter, 0.24" thick

Frequency: 200-300 Hz, although can be operated at lower frequencies but with reduced displacement output.

Material: Anodized aluminum, polyurethane.

Recommended Drive: EAI controller or audio amplifier.

Availibility: Limited production, available under EOM agreements.

C-LF TACTOR

The C-LF is a special order tactor optimized for operation at low frequencies. The C-LF is designed to operate with a maxiumum displacement output between 50-130 Hz. The form-factor of the C-LF is similar to, but slightly thicker, than the C-2. The C-LF is suggested for lab and experimental use only.

Mechanism: Moving magnet linear actuator.

Size: 1.17" diameter, 0.4" thick

Frequency: 200-300 Hz, although can be operated at lower frequencies but with reduced displacement output.

Material: Anodized aluminum, polyurethane.

Recommended Drive: EAI controller or audio amplifier.

Availibility: 4 to 6 week special order, minimum quantity purchase.

EMR TACTORS

Miniature, motor based vibrotactile optimized for use at lower frequencies (50-140 Hz) and producing peak displacements of up to 1.2 mm p-p when used with an ATAC EMR controller. Low price in high quantities.

Mechanism: Motor based actuator.

Size: 1.00" diameter, 0.4" thick

Frequency: 50-140 Hz, although can be operated at lower frequencies but with reduced displacement output.

Material: Anodized aluminum, polyurethane.

Recommended Drive: EAI EMR controller; or dc (limited performance).

Availibility: Limited production, available under OEM agreements.

EMS TACTORS

The EMS Tactor is a motor technology has been designed for mounting within a seat or cushion, and produces high force and displacement levels that allow the vibration to be easily felt even through layers of padding. The largest of the ATAC tactor family, the EMS produces the highest displacement of all tactors; >2mm p-p at ≈ 110Hz. The EMS requires special controllers and is designed for optimum vibrotactile efficiency at low frequencies (50-140 Hz).

Mechanism: Moving magnet linear actuator.

Size: 1.9" diameter, 0.75" thick

Frequency: 200-300 Hz, although can be operated at lower frequencies but with reduced displacement output.

Material: Anodized aluminum, polyurethane.

Recommended Drive: EAI EMR controller; or dc (limited performance).

Availibility: Limited production, available under OEM agreements.

SPECIAL DESIGN/SPECIAL APPLICATIONS

EAI also has a range of custom tactor designs that are based on piezoelectric, pneumatic, motor and dielectric elastomer materials. These designs offer unique advantages such as compatibility with MRI environments, etc.
