ENGINEERING ACOUSTICS, INC. offers a range of Vibrotactile Transducer and associated hardware and software, and turn-key systems to provide information to a user via the sense of touch!

EAI’s A-TAC™ system consists of several technology components; wearable and seat mounted vibrotactile transducers and arrays, controllers and application software. The technology is designed to be versatile; combinations of different types of actuators can be configured within a wearable tactile array. Our controllers and associated software are scalable and able to automatically detect the types of tactor actuators and store configurations used. Software can be provided at either embedded, DLL or integrated into high level VR simulator environments. Software agents and options are available for users to use, create and demonstrate all components of tactile arrays.

TACTORS

The key to successful implementation of tactile displays lies in the ability to convey a strong vibrotactile sensation to the body with a compact, lightweight device that can be comfortably incorporated in the user’s workspace, or clothing, without impairing movement.  These devices must be safe and reliable in harsh environments, and drive circuitry should be compatible with standard digital communication protocols.  EAI has satisfied these requirements with the development of C-2, C-3, C-LF, EMR and EMS electromechanical vibrotactile transducers (tactors).

CONTROLLERS AND SOFTWARE

Controllers range from 8-channel boards, suitable for portable and wireless operation, to multi-channel laboratory based systems. Recently developed “distributed tactor systems” allow up to 64 tactors to be driven via a 6-wire bus with a single, compact control board. All ATAC controllers include windows based DLL for easy system development. Linux drivers and advanced development and simulation tools are also available.
